Board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Certified Functional Psychiatry Provider

Why Functional Psychiatry?
While there is value in both conventional and functional psychiatry, conventional psychiatry typically uses insurance, which constrains time, diagnostics, and a deep-dive into mental health concerns. This psychiatric approach often focuses solely on managing symptoms with medication. While medications can be helpful, they don't address the underlying imbalances that contribute to depression, anxiety, ADHD, mood disorders, and other mental health concerns. We take a functional and comprehensive approach that investigates and addresses the root causes of mental health challenges.

1

Time and Attention

Our initial evaluations are 90-120 minutes, and follow-up appointments are 30-60 minutes. You'll never feel rushed or unheard.

2

Whole-Body Integration

Your brain doesn't exist in isolation. We examine gut health, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, hormone imbalances, and metabolic function—all of which profoundly impact mental wellness.

3

Advanced Diagnostic Testing

We use specialized labs that most psychiatric practices don't offer—organic acids testing, comprehensive nutrient panels, genetic testing, and hormone assessments to understand your unique biochemistry.

4

Personalized Treatment Plans

Based on your test results and individual needs, we create customized protocols using targeted nutrition, high-quality supplements, lifestyle modifications, and medication optimization when needed.

5

Sustainable Results

Rather than simply managing symptoms, our goal is to help you achieve lasting mental wellness. Many patients are able to reduce or eliminate medications over time as we address underlying causes.

Foundational Functional Bundle

This bundle includes: Hair Elements Kryptopyrrole Quant. MTHFR Genotype Organic Acids (OAT)

Organic Acids Testing (OAT)

A comprehensive test that provides valuable insight into your overall health. It can help identify issues with your gut health, mitochondrial health, oxidative stress, microbial overgrowth, neurotransmitter metabolites, and toxic exposures, methylation/detoxification concerns, and nutrient needs. This test is highly recommended for all clients.

Kryptopyrrole Test

This is a single-marker test measuring pyrroles. High Kryptopyrrole levels, known as pyroluria, pyrrole disorder, or elevated pyrroles, result in a dramatic deficiency of zinc and vitamin B6.

MTHFR Genotype

The MTHFR Genotype test determines if you have a genetic variation that affects your ability to process folate, a type of vitamin B. Genetic variants in the MTHFR gene may put you at an increased risk for anxiety, mood disorders, sleep issues, executive functioning, and cardiovascular disease.

Hair Elements

This profile is a noninvasive test that requires only a small sample of your hair. It can help identify recent and ongoing exposure to toxic metals and provide information about the status of nutrient elements in your body.

IgG Food MAP with Candida + Yeast

The IgG Food MAP analyzes 190 different foods common in Western, Asian, and Mediterranean diets, as well as candida and yeast, to determine food sensitivities. This is the serum version of the test. It is also available as a blood spot test.

Functional psychiatry is not covered by insurance.  However, we provide detailed superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Many patients receive 40-60% reimbursement, depending on their plan.

We chose a cash-based model because it allows us to:
- Spend adequate time with each patient (90-120 minute initial evaluations, 30-60 minute follow-ups)
- Avoid insurance restrictions on treatment approaches
- Focus entirely on what's best for you, not what insurance will cover
- Eliminate the administrative burden that often leads to physician burnout and shorter appointments

You can also use HSA or FSA funds to pay for our services.
Our initial comprehensive evaluation is $800 for a 90-120 minute appointment.

Follow-up appointments range from $250 (30 minutes) to $450 (60 minutes) depending on complexity and duration.

We also offer package options that provide significant savings:
- Foundation Package (3 months): $3,000 (saves $500)
- Optimization Package (6 months): $6,000 (saves $1,200)

Laboratory testing costs vary based on which tests are needed for your specific situation, typically ranging from $400-$1,200. Some labs can be ordered through insurance, or you can pay out-of-pocket.

While our approach requires upfront investment, many patients find it more cost-effective long-term because we're addressing root causes rather than indefinitely managing symptoms.

We tailor testing to each patient's needs, but commonly use:
- Organic Acids Test (OAT): Provides insights into metabolic function, neurotransmitter metabolism, nutrient deficiencies, gut health, and mitochondrial function

- Comprehensive Nutrient Panels: Vitamin D, B vitamins (including methylation markers), magnesium, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, and other nutrients critical for brain health

- Genetic Testing: Pharmacogenomic testing to optimize medication selection and dosing, plus methylation genetics (MTHFR, COMT, etc.)

- Hormone Panels: Thyroid comprehensive panels, cortisol testing, sex hormones (especially for mood issues related to perimenopause, menopause, or hormonal imbalances)

- Gut Health Assessment: When indicated, testing for intestinal permeability, microbiome composition, and digestive function

- Inflammatory Markers: High-sensitivity CRP, homocysteine, and other markers of systemic inflammation

Not every patient needs all these tests—we'll discuss which are most appropriate for your situation.
Absolutely not. We never abruptly discontinue medications, and many patients continue some or all of their medications while adding functional medicine approaches.

Our goal is optimization, not elimination. Some patients find that as we address underlying imbalances—like nutrient deficiencies, gut inflammation, or hormonal issues—they naturally need lower doses or fewer medications. Others do best on a combination of medications and functional interventions. Every person is different, and we'll work together to find what's optimal for you.

This varies significantly based on your specific situation, how long you've been struggling, and what underlying factors we identify.

Some improvements can happen quickly:
- Basic nutrient repletion: 2-4 weeks
- Gut health improvements: 4-8 weeks
- Hormonal optimization: 6-12 weeks

However, comprehensive transformation typically takes 3-6 months as we:
- Complete and interpret laboratory testing
- Implement personalized protocols
- Adjust interventions based on your response
- Address multiple underlying factors systematically

This is why we recommend our 3-month or 6-month packages—they provide the time needed for meaningful, lasting change rather than quick fixes.
Yes. As a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, I can prescribe all psychiatric medications when appropriate. The difference is that medication is one tool in a comprehensive toolbox rather than the only intervention.

We use medications thoughtfully and strategically:
- Optimize dosing based on genetic testing when possible
- Monitor for side effects and adjust quickly
- Work toward the minimum effective dose
- Combine medications with functional interventions for better outcomes
- Help patients taper off medications when they're ready and it's clinically appropriate

Some patients need medications long-term, and that's perfectly okay. Others can reduce or eliminate them as we address underlying causes. There's no one-size-fits-all approach.
You may still purchase testing kits through the website that will be shipped to you with instructions for completing the tests. Once resulted, you may schedule a consult appointment for result interpretation. Keri will not be able to recommend treatment options or supplements due to licensure limitations. She is licensed in MS and TN only.

Who is at risk of suicide?

Who is at risk of suicide?

People of all ages, sexes, and ethnicities can be at risk for suicide. The main risk factors for suicide are: A history of suicide attempts - Depression, other mental disorders, or substance use disorder - Chronic pain - Family history of a mental disorder or substance use Family history of suicide - Exposure to family violence, including physical or sexual abuse - Presence of guns or other firearms in the home - Having recently been released from prison or jail - Exposure, either directly or indirectly, to others’ suicidal behavior, such as that of family members, peers, or celebrities - Most people who have risk factors for suicide will not attempt suicide, and it is difficult to tell who will act on suicidal thoughts. Although risk factors for suicide are important to keep in mind, someone who is showing warning signs of suicide may be at higher risk for danger and need immediate attention. - National Institue of Mental Health
